The Color Run

Over the weekend I completed my first 5K of 2017, The Color Run, for my program buddy, Elijah. I have been working towards this since I was released to run by my Physical Therapist in November after an accident last July halted most physical activity. That day also happened to be the same day I was matched with Elijah through I Run 4 Michael (IR4). It was a long journey, but completing my first 5K for my buddy was amazing! It was even more appropriate that it was this particular race, The Color Run, since it is also dubbed as the “Happiest 5K on the Planet.” The Color Run is a unique race that celebrates health, happiness, and individuality, which perfectly suits Elijah. He is a healthy, happy, very unique kid (who just happens to have down syndrome) and who I am very honored to run for. I look forward to dedicating my second 5K of the year to him next month when I will be running the Bill Snyder Highway Half & 5K back at my alma mater, Kansas State University. I’ll be running with a college friend of mine as an exciting way to mark 10 years since we graduated from Kansas State University. #irun4elijah

You can get a “buddy” yourself by signing up on the I Run 4 Michael website choosing from a Special Needs Match, an Unsung Hero Siblings Match, or a Wounded Veterans Match. It’s a long wait list, but definitely worth it in the end!
