WASHINGTON AVENUE IN ST. LOUIS

Fox Architects has been located in downtown St. Louis for several decades during which we’ve witnessed the ups and downs associated with new and renovated architecture and urban design.

Most recently the renewal along Washington Avenue has been encouraging and we are pleased that even in these economic times Washington Avenue continues to improve.

At the former City Center mall the pedestrian bridge that covered Washington Avenue is GONE! This is fantastic as it brings back the daylight, dramatic views, and continuity along the street edge that was compromised by the addition of the mall years ago. Kudos for St. Louis!

From an architect’s perspective, and more importantly as a person who experiences this area of downtown St. Louis, it has been made better! And this should be a design goal for architecture/urban design projects everywhere.
