Fox Hosts SAME STEM Camp Visit

On the same day Fox hosted STEM Camp, bill passes for Architecture to be added to STEM Program.

Thursday, July 26th – Fox hosted 10 high school students from the Delta Flight division of the Scott Field Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Post, State-Federal Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Camp.

Each year the Scott Field SAME Post hosts their STEM camp at Scott Air Force Base for high school students between ages of 15-18. Fox was happy to host the Delta Flight division of Camp. Fox Partner and Licensed Architect Bob Dunn (LEED AP BD+C), Marketing Manager Monica Zidaru, and Administrative Assistant Kelly Everson presented to the group of students. They demonstrated how an Architectural Design firm functions, including the services they provide, the software programs and technology they use, and the consultants/engineers/and other companies they work with to accomplish the execution of a project/building. Bob also showed the students actual site plan renderings and went over how his team changed the floor plans to match the clients of that particular project’s needs.

Coincidentally the same day of this visit is also the day that the the US House of Representatives passed the Senate version of H.R.2353, the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act which allows the legislation to officially consider architecture as a part of STEM education. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) component executives dedicated significant time to charge to pass this bill, the most notable were Kansas, South Carolina, Indiana and Utah.

Congratulations to STEM for this incredible opportunity and a great win for architects!

Fox is proud to support the SAME STEM Camp and looks forward to hosting again next year.

*We would like to give a big thanks to SAME Post President and Business Development Manager of BRiC Partnership Julia Pluff for the invitation to be apart of this wonderful volunteer opportunity.
