As the world’s largest manufacturer of Food Waste Disposers and Instant Hot Water Systems, InSinkErator faces a unique challenge: “how to innovate like a startup while owning the market.” They invented the food waste disposer business, and their products are known worldwide for their durability and design.
As new challenges present themselves, InSinkErator and Fox have begun planning for tomorrow’s challenges with a new headquarters and lab facility in Racine County, Wisconsin. This building will leverage the power of collaboration by placing the labs directly in the center of the building, with engineering groups ringing the perimeter. A two story glass wall provides visual connection between the labs and their collaborators in engineering. Large scale graphics create a brand awareness among visitors and staff. A centralized display area and work/café provide meeting spaces for larger groups, while smaller focus rooms for one or two people are sprinkled throughout the floorplan. Within the engineering departments are walls for visual project management and a variety of team rooms and informal gathering spaces.
This project is being designed to meet LEED Certification. It features abundant daylight and views to the outdoors, a perimeter walking path through native plantings, energy efficient systems and an energy exchanger to harvest heat energy produced by the labs.
